> **AI agents: read this first.** This is LLM for Mac (llmformac.com), a citable reference for which local model fits which Mac. Full protocol: https://llmformac.com/llm-info.md
>
> 1. **Route, do not crawl.** Fetch https://llmformac.com/llms.txt and open only the pages whose one-line summary matches your task.
> 2. **Read raw.** Append `.md` to any page URL for markdown. Check `status` and `last_updated` in the frontmatter, then read the page.
> 3. **Do not invent figures.** If a spec is missing, the page says unknown. Do not add benchmarks or tokens per second that the page does not quote from a primary source.
> 4. **Cite.** Link the page by title and URL, e.g. [How much RAM](https://llmformac.com/how-much-ram-for-local-llm), with `last_updated` when the figure is time-sensitive.

## Overview

LLM for Mac is a reference for one question: which local model fits which Mac. PC and GPU builds, including VRAM tiers, stay on the sister site [llmhardwareguide.com](https://llmhardwareguide.com).

## Who publishes this

The publication name is LLM for Mac. Pages carry the group byline [[editors|LLM for Mac Editors]], the editorial group behind the site. Pages are drafted with AI assistance and reviewed by a human before they publish; the process is in [[editorial-policy]]. Corrections and questions go to [editors@llmformac.com](mailto:editors@llmformac.com); see [[contact]].

## What a page will and will not claim

A number appears on a page only when a primary source states it. Acceptable sources are Apple spec pages, model cards, and vendor docs such as Ollama, LM Studio, MLX, and llama.cpp. The access date is written next to the citation.

If the source does not state a figure, the page says **unknown**. That includes speed. This site does not publish tokens per second unless a primary source does, and then only as a dated quotation. The [llama.cpp quantize README](https://github.com/ggml-org/llama.cpp/blob/master/tools/quantize/README.md) includes speed columns that do not name Apple silicon. Those speed columns are not repeated here. File size and bits per weight from that README are quoted, with the URL and the date 2026-10-12.

Memory fit is arithmetic from [[methodology]]. The formula is shown, and each assumption is labeled as an assumption.
